Her work has been published in the New York Times\, the American Scholar\, Fast Company\, and other venues. \n\n\n\nThe evening will be hosted by Kris King who is\, among many remarkable things\, the executive director of the Livingston Business Improvement District\, a freelance writer for the Montana Quarterly\, and a freelance marketing specialist at Buzz Media. The reading and discussion will take place at 6pm and will be followed by a book signing and reception. \n\n\n\nA River Runs Through It and Other Stories turned Norman Maclean into a late-in-life literary phenomenon and then a household name after the success of the Hollywood film based on the title story. Yet fewer know of Maclean’s lifelong struggles to reconcile very different parts of himself: the revered teacher and writer in the intellectual hub of Chicago and the Montana man compelled by the wildness and traumas of his home state and family\, including the tragic Mann Gulch fire and the murder of his brother. Rebecca McCarthy’s intimate portrait of Maclean draws on her long friendship with the author from the time she became a student at the University of Chicago through the rest of his life. Irrepressible as a teacher\, Maclean shared guidance\, advice\, campus and city rambles\, and loyal friendship with generations of students. Behind the scenes\, he honed an art as meditative and patient as his approach to fly fishing. She writes book reviews for Montana Quarterly\, and edits for several national and international publishers. Her latest book of poetry is The Price of the Repair. She lives in Livingston. \n\n\n\nBisbing’s The Price of the Repair\, ( Finishing Line Press\, 2024) is a collection of unexpected\, sharp poems that reveal what it is like to be lost in the wilderness-searching for home\, where preference comes up against some surprising conflicts\, both inward and external. At 48\, Bisbing starts backpacking solo in Montana-where nature humbles her. Wildness is different in Montana. Bisbing\, who once faced lions in Zimbabwe\, finds her first grizzly sighting even more daunting. The bearded men in the backcountry\, with their rifles\, make the gang members in Chicago seem less intimidating. As a murder mystery author and the daughter of a renowned forensic scientist\, it isn’t by mistake that villains appear on her pages. She invites you to walk this treacherous path with her. It asks questions that are urgent\, impossible\, necessary\, and irresistible: Where does freedom live? Why does it sometimes feel so good to be told what to do? What on heaven and earth is the Apicklypse? \n\n\n\nThese and other inquiries arise from Amy Leach’s experience: playing fiddle and piano (and sometimes the organ); her childhood in the Seventh-day Adventist Church\, and its many prohibitions (coffee\, dancing) and emphasis on the apocalypse. All the voices and stories gathered here intertwine and co-exist\, revealing\, as poet Irene Kinney writes\, “…this unknown buried in the known.” \n\n\n\nKate Fox’s work has appeared in the Great River Review\, New Ohio Review\, Green Mountains Review\, Kenyon Review\, Valparaiso Review\, Pleiades\, and West Branch. She has also authored two poetry chapbooks: The Lazarus Method\, chosen for the Wick Poetry Series and published by Kent State University Press\, and Walking Off the Map\, published by Seven Kitchens Press in Cincinnati. She was an Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist’s Grant recipient\, and her poem\, “The Lost Baby Poem” earned second place in Cutthroat’s Joy Harjo Poetry Award competition. She lives in Athens with poet and scholar Bob DeMott\, and their two English setters\, mild-mannered Katie\, and ill-mannered Patch.

There will be a presentation and reading at 7 pm during the art walk. \n\n\n\nIn Linda Barnsley’s series “Blooms Amid the Stars” she contrasts the color and temporary nature of blooms against the dark and vastness of the universe. Billings entomologist\, spider enthusiast\, and insect photographer\, Marian Lyman catches insects she finds and then brings them home and uses extreme close-up photography to capture their unique beauty. Cara Chamberlain is a conservationist and advocate of animals of all kinds. In 2023\, her latest collection of poems\, To Gaze Upon Their Loveliness\, was released by Finishing Line Press in Kentucky. The collection is full of poetic love letters\, not to the natural world\, but from the natural world. Chamberlain has long written about her love of animals and the natural world in her poetry\, and she is also the author of Hidden Things\, The Divine Botany\, and Lament of the Antichrist in a Secular World and Other Poems. \n\n\n\nIn his latest novel\, Craig Lancaster\, hailed as “one of Montana’s most important writers\,” goes deep into how history shapes and confines us and how hope sometimes stubbornly abides. Accompanied by the photography of Lea Frye\, Scot Bealer leads you on a journey of discovery\, recalling occasions when he\, or sometimes his clients\, learned important lessons. DESCRIPTION:Our Town: Who’s Afraid of a Little Drama?\n\n\n\nLivingston’s newly formed theatre meet-up will read the scripts and then meet each month to discuss one of the upcoming plays that’s being produced in the Livingston / Bozeman area. We’ll meet upstairs at Wheatgrass Books on the 4th Sunday of the month at 2 pm. Directors who are available will join us for a talk-back-style chat about the play. Below is the schedule for Winter / Spring 2024. \n\n\n\nJoin our small but growing group of theatre nerds to talk about the script by Eric Coble\, My Barking Dog\, on Sunday\, March 24th at 2 pm.
