SUMMARY:Silly Stories Only Book Club
DESCRIPTION:BOOK CLUB\n\n\n\nSilly Stories Only Book Club\n\n\n\nLast fall\, The Curious Camps Company hosted High Tea Tales\, an elementary book club that met upstairs at the store. It was the loveliest book club full of pinkies-up\, sugar-cube-filled tea\, a smorgasbord of finger foods\, and kids dressing up just for fun. Kids discussed stories\, and we heard lots of laughter up there as books led them through possum acting lessons\, ridiculous cures for the wildest childhood illnesses\, solving mysteries around the farm\, and even adventures involving rock collections and chicken calls. It was cozy\, creative\, a little silly\, and very much about enjoying good books with friends. \n\n\n\nThis spring\, The Curious Camps Company is turning the page. If it ain’t broke\, make it sillier. They’re putting away the proper pinky-up tea parties and leaning fully into shenanigans. And we are excited to host this crazy crew once again! \n\n\n\nDo you like jokes?Do you think farts are funny?Do you love a ridiculous accent and googly eye glasses? \n\n\n\nThen Silly Stories ONLY is the book club for you. \n\n\n\nJoin Hannah from The Curious Camps Company for a super-silly book club that reads only funny stories—the kind that make you cackle\, snort-laugh\, and maybe roll on the floor. Each month dive into wildly frivolous and nonsensical books\, play preposterous games\, scarf scrumptious snacks\, and celebrate stories that do not take themselves seriously. \n\n\n\nBefore each meeting\, families receive a monthly support email with discussion questions and optional extension activities. At the club\, kids enjoy a themed silly snack\, talk about the book together\, and then jump into games and hands-on activities inspired by the story. \n\n\n\nThis goofy gang meets the second Thursday of every month from 3:45–5:45 PM\, upstairs at Wheatgrass Books. And Wheatgrass offers a discount on all book club books\, because silliness (and reading) deserve a perk. \n\n\n\nSilly stories have a special magic: even the most reluctant readers often get pulled in\, and these book picks make excellent solo reads or family read-alouds. Check out the spring line up of Seriously Silly Stories: \n\n\n\nFebruary – The Giggler Treatment by Roddy Doyle AKA Don’t step in the dog poop! \n\n\n\nMarch – Buckle and Squash: The Perilous Princess Plot by Sarah Courtauld AKA Silly Sister saves sillier sister while riding a goat! \n\n\n\nApril – Alvin Ho: Allergic to Girls\, School\, and Other Scary Things by Lenore Look AKA Can’t talk about it\, I have “so-so performance anxiety disorder. \n\n\n\nMay – Stinkbomb and Ketchup-Face and the Badness of Badgers by John Dougherty AKA Badgers must be bad….it’s in the name BADgers. \n\n\n\nBring your books.Bring your best joke…or a bad one!Bring your giggles. \n\n\n\nAll the silly. SUMMARY:Nancy Krogh Reading for Harlo by Brian Peterson
DESCRIPTION:READING\n\n\n\nNancy Krogh Reading for Harlo by Brian Peterson\n\n\n\nJoin us Sunday\, February 22nd\, in welcoming Nancy Krogh who will read on behalf of her husband and author\, Brian Peterson. \n\n\n\nBrian’s novel\, Harlo is the story of a man who once had it all—a stable career as a banker in Bozeman\, a wife\, two kids—but a painful divorce and reckless mistakes shattered his world. He lost his job\, his family\, and came close to losing his life. With nowhere else to go\, he retreats to Harlowton\, Montana\, and the familiar landscapes of his troubled youth\, in the very community he once fled. Now he’s managed to regain respect and a place in the community as president of the bank and has settled in to a comfortable life. Chet Norem has made unfortunate decisions in the past and is about to do so again. But there are bound to be consequences\, some of which he has considered and others that could go far beyond any he may have imagined. Brian Petersen has crafted characters with all the qualities and quirks that paint a colorful picture of small town life and who affect both Chet’s past and his future. \n\n\n\nHarlo was awarded a starred review by Kirkus and also named one of the top 100 Indie books of 2025\, one of seven in the literary fiction category. \n\n\n\nAbout the AuthorBrian Petersen was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s at the age of 63. The disease is devastating. It is a shock that upends hopes and plans for what remains of life. Brian wrote this book before diagnosis but needed to finalize and submit to a publisher before the disease took his ability to write. There is a concept called “cognitive reserve”with Alzheimers that can help people work around increasing losses to keep going.  Brian used his reserve to full advantage to finish Harlo. After it was accepted for publication by Pronghorn Press\, also the publisher of his first book\, Vanish\, his wife\, his publisher\, and good friends worked together to get it to print\, and are thrilled that it has received a Starred Review from Kirkus Reviews.

SUMMARY:Poetry Writing Workshop & Reading with Maggie Dewane
DESCRIPTION:WORKSHOP & READING\n\n\n\nPoetry Writing Workshop & Reading with Maggie Dewane\n\n\n\nWheatgrass Books is pleased to welcome author\, poet\, and filmmaker Maggie Dewane for a poetry reading and nature-inspired haiku writing workshop on Saturday\, February 7th at 3:00 p.m. The event will feature a reading from Dewane’s new book\, Haiku and Hope: 50 States of Climate Change\, followed by an interactive workshop designed to introduce participants to the art of nature journaling and haiku. \n\n\n\nIn this hands-on workshop\, Dewane will guide attendees through a reflective nature journaling exercise that encourages close observation\, curiosity\, and creativity. Participants will explore how haiku can serve as a vehicle for expressing a deeper connection to place. By the end of the session\, everyone will have crafted an original haiku inspired by a meaningful or memorable landscape. Sharing is welcomed but not required\, making the workshop accessible to writers of all levels. \n\n\n\nHaiku and Hope: 50 States of Climate Change showcases Dewane’s journey across all 50 states as she documents America’s landscapes through paired haiku—one reflecting the present moment\, the other imagining the future. The book also features a narrative section that delves into her travels\, inspirations\, and the emotional experience of encountering the country’s changing environments. Blending poetry\, personal storytelling\, and environmental awareness\, Dewane’s work offers readers both a celebration of natural wonder and a call to stewardship. \n\n\n\nMaggie Dewane has traveled to all seven continents to better understand climate change\, conservation\, and the interconnectedness of people and place. Through films\, journalism\, and poetry\, she translates climate science for broad\, accessible audiences with the aim of inspiring action. \n\n\n\nThis event is free and open to the public (though a $15 donation is encouraged.) Books will be available for purchase and signing. Participants are to bring a notebook or notepaper for writing.

SUMMARY:Book Launch & Reading of Baby Driver
DESCRIPTION:BOOK LAUNCH & READING\n\n\n\nBook Launch & Reading of Baby Driver \n\n\n\nWheatgrass Books will host a Book Launch on November 11th at 7 pm with local author\, Amanda Fortini\, who will be reading and discussing Baby Driver by Jan Kerouac with an introduction by Amanda Fortini.  \n\n\n\nThe first novel by Jan Kerouac\, daughter of Jack—a thrilling work of autobiographical fiction that captures with inspired detail a life driven by adventure\, drugs\, far-flung travel\, and like her father\, a relentless quest for pure experience.“If [Jack] Kerouac sometimes put a spiritual gloss on poverty and life on the edge\, his daughter offered an unflinching vision.” —The Guardian \n\n\n\n“Was it January or February? The coconut fronds waving\, shining like green hair in the sun\, gave no clue.” Fifteen-year-old Jan is pregnant\, gamely living off rice and whatever fish her boyfriend John can catch in Yelapa\, Mexico. Her sojourn there–both thrilling and heartbreaking–marks the beginning of a life of restless wandering. Jan Kerouac\, the only child of Jack Kerouac\, first published her autobiographical novel Baby Driver in 1981. Fearless and frank\, Baby Driver is the story of a difficult childhood\, marked by maternal warmth and paternal disregard\, and of the heady freedom and precariousness of self-reliance.

DESCRIPTION:Happy Tea: A wild ride of self-discovery and unexpected lessons.\n\n\n\nThe Livingston Fringe Festival was created by Tessa Welch and Kate Britton and takes place September 22 – 28\, 2025. Get an all access pass for the amazing line-up of shows happening throughout the week at locations all about town. Wheatgrass Books will host comedian Jennifer Jane for two performances\, Thursday the 25th at 6pm and Saturday the 27th at 3pm.  \n\n\n\nThis candid one woman show brings Jennifer’s journey full circle with her debut comedy hour inspired by her experiences chronicled in the multi-award winning documentary Charged\, which follows the absurd true story of her relationship with a charming serially unfaithful boyfriend\, whose near-fatal freak hiking accident flipped their lives upside down. It’s shocking. It’s painfully funny. And it’s not the story you think it is. Through biting wit and razor-sharp heartfelt storytelling\, Jennifer unpacks the comedy\, tragedy\, and ultimate redemption in a tale so outrageous it can only be true. She delves into what it’s like to become friends with your own nipple hairs\, the unexpected joy of six weeks sleeping in a chair and the room stopping awkwardness when she asks a medical doctor if she can cook her ex-boyfriend’s amputated hand. This is a remarkably honest\, deeply insightful look at being a caregiver\, trying to do the right thing under weird circumstances and the journey to reclaim her life and confidence. Get Tickets Here

DESCRIPTION:BOOK SIGNING\n\n\n\nJim Overstreet\n\n\n\nWheatgrass Books will host author Jim Overstreet for a book signing during the 4th Friday Art Walk on August 22nd from 5 pm to 8 pm. \n\n\n\nJim Overstreet is a lifelong cowboy and author of A Montana Rivalry. Raising horses for most of his life\, he earned multiple titles in tie down roping\, from youth rodeo to the senior circuit. As an accomplished writer\, his work has been published in national magazines including Reader’s Digest\, Persimmon Hill and numerous equine magazines\, including Western Horseman. The American Horse Publications honored him as a winner in their Feature Article category. \n\n\n\nJim rode horses before he could walk. He grew up on the Sun Ranch\, a large cattle and horse ranch in the Madison Valley in southwest Montana with a father who was an avid horseman and well-respected cowboy in the area. He grew up believing that cowboys were special. His father helped him begin training horses and later he learned from Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance. \n\n\n\nJim’s adult life was filled with roping and rodeos along with raising two daughters with his wife amongst his many horses in the shadow of Montana’s Crazy Mountains. \n\n\n\nJim loves to write\, except when he hates it\, and although he is old enough to know better\, Jim still rides and trains horses. He is passionate about telling stories of the contemporary West that demonstrate the physical toughness\, mental determination\, and dependence on community inherent to ranching and rodeo. His first book\, A Montana Rivalry\, released by Palmetto Publishing in fall of 2023\, is the first book in the Rodeo in The Blood Series. Since then\, three more have been published: A Montana Inheritance\, A Montana Feud\, and The Canadian Horse.

SUMMARY:Commonplace Book Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Commonplace Book Workshop\n\n\n\nPlease join me for this commonplace book workshop! As a lifelong notebook and journal collector\, I have been searching for the perfect journaling method. I’ve tried it all—guided journals\, stream of consciousness\, bullet journals\, scrapbooks\, digital journals\, even Tumblr! None of these methods clicked for me. Instead\, I created a looming stack of nearly empty notebooks that had been “ruined” (or completely empty ones that were too perfect for me to use). Little did I know\, John Locke—yes\, ye old 17th century John Locke\, had solved my problem 400 years ago with the commonplace book. \n\n\n\nWhat is a commonplace book\, you ask? A commonplace book is a way to gather everything in one spot. Thoughts\, ideas\, keepsakes\, journal entries\, lists\, brain dumps\, pressed leaves\, business cards\, that one joke you don’t want to ever forget\, the random sequin you found on the porch that has to be a sign from the universe (yes—I have one of these in my commonplace book)\, the notes you take during the documentary on the microbiome that you don’t have anyplace else to put\, your list of suspects and clues that you know will solve that cold case from 1905. Anything! Everything! With a table of contents\, glossary\, and index\, you’ll never misplace these important items again. \n\n\n\nFor the workshop\, you’ll want to bring a new notebook. All other supplies will be provided\, but you can start gathering items you want to save in your book: thank you notes\, newspaper clippings\, new-to-you vocabulary words\, favorite quotes and poems\, etc. You don’t need to bring any of these items\, but you might get more out of our time together. Not only has this method simplified my life\, but it has given me a safe space to be creative and curious. \n\n\n\nSo\, grab that beautiful notebook that you love but have been too afraid to use\, and let’s get commonplacing!  \n\n\n\n—Natalie Jackman  \n\n\n\nIf you have questions\, feel free to reach out to me beforehand at 406-823-0112.

Osborne\, for a book signing on Saturday\, August 9th from 11 am to 2 pm. \n\n\n\n“As an avid bow hunter and outdoorsman\, I’ve been fortunate to enjoy some of the most breathtaking landscapes that Montana has to offer. From the rugged peaks of the Rocky Mountains to the serene valleys and flowing rivers\, every adventure strengthens my connection to nature and fuels my passion for storytelling. My experiences in the wilderness have not only provided endless inspiration for my books but have also taught me valuable lessons about patience\, perseverance\, and respect. Whether I’m bugling elk in the dense timber or stalking pronghorn antelope in open prairies\, each moment spent in the wild has deepened my appreciation for the outdoors and its untamed beauty. \n\n\n\nMy works of fiction\, like Trapper Creek and Timberline Justice\, reflect thrilling hunts and deep bonds of friendship and family. My characters face not only the challenges posed by nature but also chilling\, unsuspected encounters with the worst in men. \n\n\n\nMy Monster Masher series of children’s books offers an exciting collection of short stories that captivate kids of all ages. These thrilling adventures not only ignite young imaginations but also impart essential life lessons.”
